What is DiMM

DiMM is designed for doctors, nurses, and paramedics seeking to enhance their medical expertise in challenging mountain settings. Through theoretical lessons, practical exercises, and case-based training, participants gain advanced knowledge and skills in managing conditions such as hypothermia, altitude sickness, trauma, and evacuations in difficult terrain. Additionally, participants will acquire technical skills in mountain navigation and rescue, enabling them to serve as emergency medical resources in alpine environments.

UCLan offers advanced education in mountain medicine for doctors, nurses, and paramedics, available as a postgraduate diploma (PGDip) or master’s degree (MSc), with DiMM certification integrated into the program.

The PGDip program in Mountain Medicine includes four modules:

  • High Altitude Medicine and Mountain Emergency Medicine (40 credits)

  • Mountain Emergency Medicine in Winter Environments (20 credits)
